Paul’s letter to the Romans calls Christians to submit to the governing authorities of his day, while underlining the role of government for the good of its society.
What is the meaning and relevance of Romans 13 for us today in unpacking the role of the state as well as our role in society, in the context of managing the nation and its resources?
This seminar will provide a fresh outlook look at the bible and contemporary situation on the responsibilities of those who govern and those who are governed. Is this submission unconditional or do we have a part to play in promoting Kingdom values in governance?

What does the Bible say about how a king should behave, or how a government should be run? How does this apply to current modern democratic societies? What then, is the role of citizens? Is the exhortation to submit to governing authorities unconditional, even in the event of abuse of power and injustice?

Rev. Dr. Tan Jin Huat will provide an understanding of Romans 13:1-7 and other Scriptural texts on some principles of state and citizens.

Citizen movements draw the most media attention and for good reason. What happens behind the scenes for activists involved in mobilising citizens’ action, particular in holding public officials accountable? How is it like to raise aware at the United Nations level and come against legislative restrictions to freedom of assembly and speech in Malaysian society? This workshop is suitable for those who are considering activism, or want to be involved in activism.
